Artist Bio: Carlos María Romero (Colombia, 1979), a.k.a. Atabey Mamasita, is a performer and multidisciplinary artist with a background in dance and live art working in the fields of performing and visual arts, heritage and architectural activism, pedagogy and curating. María Romero is a founding member of Vividero Colectivo, a group of multidisciplinary artists and architects revealing narratives in which historically marginalised bodies, social practices and architectural goods can be (re-)claimed as cultural heritage; and of SPIT! (Sodomites, Inverts, Perverts Together!) which whom they wrote and keep presenting a series queer manifestos responding to contemporary pressing issues of sexual and gender oppression. María Romero is an active member and contributor to the parade La Puntica No Má’ in Barranquilla Carnival, and is founder and Chair of Margate Coastal Park, a not-for-profit community group which aims are to develop a shared understanding of the history and significance of the continuous stretch of open space that lines the coast of Margate, UK.
